Client: Martin McColl Retail Group

Background

Martin McColl Retail Group is the UK's leading neighbourhood retailing group, with more than 1,250 stores encompassing brands such as McColl's and Martin's.

Bartuf Systems has worked with MMRG for a number of years providing retail display solutions.

Brief

  • To support MMRG in increasing sales of newspapers and magazines by approximately 5%.
  • To introduce new profiles for both news and magazines in 300 McColl's and Martin's stores, incorporating an enhancement of impulse purchase options.

Solution

McColl's and Martin's are convenience retailers which stock a wide variety of news and magazine titles. The brief was to replace and enhance existing news and magazine profiles to boost sales within the existing allocated floor space.

Bartuf Systems increased the linear meterage by revising bays incorporated in the profiles to increase the volume and range of stock and, at the same time, improve ease of access and visibility for the customer.

Tailored to each individual store a range of 11-tier magazine bays, 64-face wave displays for specialist titles and vertical newsstands were utilised. Many of the new profiles also incorporated bespoke confectionery, crisps and snack bays to encourage further impulse sales.

Outcome

Bartuf managed this high profile project, working in conjunction with associate suppliers to supply, install and manage the nine-month project.

Paul Taylor, General Manager Marketing for Martin McColl, said:

"We are always looking at ways to enhance the retail experience for our customers, both in terms of the ranges we stock and how appealing and easy they are to view or select from.

"The revitalised newspaper and magazine bays showcase the extensive range of specialist titles, alongside the daily and weekly publications. We expect that the refurbishment will help us achieve increased sales in this sector."
